Selim Başoğlu and Carolin Müller (P1) at the Summer Forum of the Heidelberg Graduate School for Humanities and Social Sciences
From 16–17 July 2026, the Heidelberg Graduate School for Humanities and Social Sciences held their annual Summer Forum. This year, the theme of the conference was “ImA(I)gining the Future: How Digital Technologies Rewrite Our World.” Selim Başoğlu and Carolin Müller of the project P1 “Pioneer Communities” both presented ongoing research there.
Selim Başoğlu’s talk, titled “Imagining AI as the Future: The Need for Theorizing a Research Agenda,” focused on how the future has been theorized in communication and media research and how these theoretical approaches have evolved over time.
In her presentation “Always Superintelligence? Quiet Futuring and the Construction of AI Futures on LessWrong”, Carolin Müller focused on the question how AI futures are defined on LessWrong and how these imaginations have shifted discursively.
The event explored various perspectives on how new technologies such as AI might shape the future. In addition to various panel discussions, there were also fishbowl discussions and workshops addressing this topic.
