On May 7, 2025, Andreas Hepp will give a lecture at the Institute for Global Governance Research (GGR) at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. The lecture will explore the concept of digital futures and the research perspectives required to investigate them. Hepp will discuss the meaning of the term “digital futures,” which is commonly used in everyday language, and examine the groups currently shaping our perceptions of a future dominated by digital technologies and communicative AI.

The lecture is part of a longer research stay in Japan, during which Andreas Hepp not only visits various universities and research institutions, but also collects data on digital pioneer communities in Japan. Andreas Hepp is co-head of the DFG/FWF research unit 5656 “Communicative AI” and leads the sub-project “Pioneer Communities: Imagining ComAI and its possible futures”.
