P8 | Health: Caring through ComAI at the Anticipation Conference 2026
From July 1 to 3, 2026, the Anticipation Conference took place in Milan, bringing together policymakers, researchers, designers, and practitioners to rethink how ideas about the future operate under conditions of uncertainty and unknowing. Juliane Jarke, Ren Aldridge and Sara Skardelly from the P8 project “Health: Caring through ComAI” presented ongoing research.
Juliane Jarke and Sara Skardelly’s talk, titled “Communicative AI as anticipatory infrastructures of and in care futures,” focused on how Communicative AI emerges not just as a “communicative other” in care relations, but also becomes an anticipatory infrastructure. This transformation shifts the notion of “good care” towards an automated, anticipatory practice, accompanied by the imperative to prepare for and pre-empt risks and illness.
In their presentation, “Embracing the monstrous: Speculative and arts-based approaches to feminist ageing futures in datafied worlds”, Ren Aldridge and Juliane Jarke, together with collaborators Steve Symons and Helen Manchester, explored how we can co-design speculative objects and experiences that make visible and challenge dominant discourses about data-driven solutions for the “crisis” of demographic ageing.
