Leonie Winterpacht at international conferences

What does “healthy” aging mean as conversational AI becomes an increasingly common part of everyday life? And how are older adults currently engaging with health technologies and envisioning their futures as they age? To address these and other topics, Leonie Winterpacht from P8 “Health” presented at two consecutive international conferences: the 55th Annual Conference of the British Society for Gerontology (BSG) in Oxford and at the 23rd World Congress of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG) in Amsterdam.

There, she presented empirical findings from her dissertation project on the topic “Doing ‘healthy’ ageing in the meantime: Negotiating living experiences and anticipated techno-futures”and discussed their initial findings with an international audience of experts. Particularly during the panel discussion titled “Critical Studies of Ageing and Technology – Exploring Relations and Complexities between Ageing, the Digital, and Society,” it became clear how important a critical examination of communicative AI is in the context of aging, not least for gerontology itself.
