Andrea Heisse at the European Sociology Association Conference 2026
In August, Andrea Heisse (P7) presented her PhD research at the 17th ESA conference in Warsaw.
Artificial intelligence receives increasing attention from the sociology of professions, raising questions about the algorithmic capacity to make knowledge claims, take over professional tasks, and implicate professional autonomy. In her presentation, Andrea approached these questions, drawing on empirical insights from her multi-sited ethnography of professional bereavement support and AI grief companion apps. She outlined how ComAI applications are entangled with historically constructed notions of professional competence and how stakeholders make sense of their implementation in the field.
