How do visions of the future emerge within science, media, and society – and what methodological approaches help us study them?

Under the title “From Analyses of the Present to Futuring”, the DFG Research Unit Communicative AI (ComAI) together with the Section for Sociology of Knowledge of the German Sociological Association (DGS) invites submissions for an interdisciplinary workshop on methods of future-oriented generation of practice and knowledge.

The workshop will take place on 28–29 May 2026 at the University of Bremen. It aims to critically discuss methodological, theoretical, and empirical approaches to futuring and scenario research, reflecting on their role in shaping individual projections, collective visions, and societal imaginaries.

We welcome contributions that are theoretical, historical, or methodological in nature, as well as empirical case studies.

Abstracts (max. 500 words incl. references, anonymized) should be submitted by 28 February 2026 to futuring@uni-bremen.de.
