Andreas Hepp Visiting Scholar at Stanford University

What characterizes the “intellectual landscape” surrounding the development of artificial intelligence in California? ZeMKI member Prof. Dr. Andreas Hepp is currently conducting research as a visiting scholar at Stanford University on pioneer communities in Silicon Valley.
Until October 20th, Andreas Hepp will work with the Silicon Valley Archives as part of his research stay and continue his media ethnographic exploration of the “intellectual landscape” of artificial intelligence (AI) in the San Francisco Bay Area.
A central aim of his stay is the completion of a book on Pioneer Communities, scheduled for publication by Polity Press next year. This research directly ties into the objectives of the DFG/FWF Research Unit 5656 “Communicative AI” (ComAI), particularly with regard to analyzing communicative infrastructures and actor networks surrounding AI technologies. The stay was planned in close collaboration with Prof. Fred Turner (Stanford University). On site, Andreas Hepp is supported by Dr. Henry Lowood, curator of the Silicon Valley Archives.
Andreas Hepp is spokesperson of the DFG Research Unit “Communicative AI” (ComAI) and heads the “Datafication and Mediatization” Lab at ZeMKI. More information about his research can be found here: https://zemki.uni-bremen.de/person/andreas-hepp/
