ComAI Workshop in Bremen: Shared Conceptual Work, Integration of Results, and Future Planning
In early June 2025, the second internal workshop of the DFG/FWF Research Unit 5656 “Communicative AI” (ComAI) took place at the University of Bremen. The goal of the meeting was to sharpen shared perspectives on central theoretical and methodological challenges and to further structure the intensive exchange between the sub-projects.
The focus was initially on the current progress reports from the two Research Areas. In addition, participants discussed key concepts related to the sociomaterial constitution and appropriation of communicative artificial intelligence. In both areas, cross-project working groups were formed to refine the identified core concepts and prepare joint publications—with the aim of presenting initial results at the autumn retreat in Graz.
Another key topic was the ComAI Research Space: The technical and conceptual development of the platform was presented and discussed—this included AI benchmarking of political values, the upcoming content analysis, and preparations for the Trend Scout panel.
Furthermore, the group addressed the planning of upcoming activities for the year, joint conferences and publications, as well as aspects of doctoral supervision and the upcoming summer school.
The next meeting of the research group will take place during the summer retreat in Graz from 15 to 17 September 2025.
