The AI suggestion box for concerns about journalism at re:publica
There are plenty of concerns and fears when it comes to how communicative AI is appropriated in journalism. To capture these, the project “Journalism: Automating the news and journalistic autonomy” has adopted a familiar tool often used in classrooms: the suggestion box. In this case it is a colourful box into which visitors to re:publica, the conference on internet culture, can drop their concerns. This collects both the concerns held by journalists and the uncertainties felt by the audience.
Through this artistic-scientific intervention, the team hopes, on the one hand, to learn more about the worries and fears – and perhaps also the frustration and anger – of those involved. To this end, they are preparing letters on which participants can also indicate whether they belong to the group of practitioners or the group of the audience. Secondly, they also want to see the AI suggestion box as a place for debates about a journalism with AI.
Feel free to stop by and visit the AI Suggestion Box at re:publica in Berlin from May 18 to 20!
