Two international talks by Andreas Hepp on communicative AI and digital futures

In June 2025, Prof. Dr. Andreas Hepp (ZeMKI, University of Bremen, spokesperson of the research group Communicative AI) will address key questions on the transformation of public communication and the digital futures of communicative AI at two renowned events:
24 June 2025 – “AI meets humanities & social sciences” (Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna)
In his talk “The future of communicative AI: Why it is about societal communication and what this means for media and communication research”, Andreas Hepp will highlight why communicative AI must be understood from the perspective of societal communication. He advocates for a stronger integration of “digital futures” into media and communication research and emphasizes the need to shift focus from the consequences of established media to the emergence of new media forms and practices.
25 June 2025 – Keynote at the RMeS Summer School “Media Transformations” (Amsterdam)
In his keynote “Transforming public communication and digital futures: From social media to communicative AI”, Hepp will explore the fundamental refiguration of public communication and the role of visions of digital futures. He argues that change cannot be reduced to individual media but affects the media environment as a whole – with communicative AI currently at the centre of this transformation process.
Both talks highlight the core mission of the ComAI research group: to critically reflect on the societal implications of communicative AI and to develop new perspectives on its role in public discourse and social structures.
