On November 10, 2025, the research group Communicative AI (ComAI) held its quarterly meeting at the Haus der Wissenschaft in Bremen. The focus was on an exchange with Prof. Dr. Andrea L. Guzman (Northern Illinois University), currently a visiting scholar at ZeMKI, as well as on planning the group’s joint publications for the coming year.

In a lively discussion, Guzman spoke about her book chapter “Should Machines Write About Death? Questions of Technology, Humanity, and Ethics in the Automation of Journalism” and engaged with ComAI members on questions of agency, responsibility, and meaning-making in human–machine relations. The conversation spanned topics from journalistic applications and care scenarios to ethical and legal aspects of AI use. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of trust and ethics of care in understanding communicative AI.

Afterwards, the group turned to publication planning within the two Research Areas – Sociomaterial Constitution (RA1) and Appropriation (RA2) – developing concepts for collaborative articles and further joint publications.

As the year draws to a close, the meeting once again demonstrated the fruitful interdisciplinary exchange within the research group – marked by new ideas, concrete publication plans, and a shared anticipation for the research year ahead.
